Tsunoda wants to make Japan proud: 'I will race even more aggressively'

Yuki Tsunoda is the first Japanese person since 2014 to be able to make his country proud in a Formula 1 car. The new driver at AlphaTauri is aware of this and already knows that he will not hold back.

Tsunoda finished third in the Formula 2 championship and lost to experienced Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott. Pierre Gasly's new teammate does not intend to slow down in 2021.

''My strong point is my way of attacking and I think the people who see me will be impressed by that. I will be a rookie in 2021, but for the first six months, I want to be even more aggressive and get as much out of it as possible. Then I'll make mistakes and I can learn from them in the second half of the year," says Tsunoda according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Japanese pride

''My team member has a lot of experience and I want to absorb as much of that as possible and learn as much as possible from him. I will also have to take the gym this winter. I didn't notice my neck moving so much in F2, but in Formula 1 I really felt my neck and had to rest my head on the headrest," says the Japanese.

Tsunoda is also aware that many F1 fans in Japan are looking forward to his debut. "I hope the Japanese GP can be held with fans in 2021. My strength is catching up and I would very much like to entertain the fans who will then be able to see me live in action," concludes the driver of AlphaTauri.
