Following the documentary about Max Verstappen, there was a premiere on Monday in Theatre Tuschinski in Amsterdam. Verstappen himself was only present through a video connection, but father Jos was physically present and he spoke to the press about the documentary and about the strong end of the season of Red Bull Racing.

Verstappen grows as an athlete and person

In conversation with Motorsport.com Verstappen explains how his son has grown in sports and as a person in 2020: "I think it is mainly because of experience, but also because of the way of driving. Look, this car wasn't an easy car to drive. It was pretty tense at the back and Max can handle it well.

According to his father, Max has become older and wiser, so he knows better how to deal with certain situations. "As a human being and a driver, that's what makes you better.

More frustrating for father Verstappen than for son

That's why in 2021 Verstappen is more than ever ready for a title battle. The finale in Abu Dhabi gives some hope. Never before did the Dutchman get the material from Red Bull Racing to really compete against Mercedes.

Verstappen mentions the frustration about this: "I think it is a little more frustrating for me than it is for Max, or maybe it's the same thing. Max just has to make the best of it all the time. We're at Red Bull and that's what we have to do it with. Of course you can be walking around frustrated, but that - and that's what Max says - doesn't help to get better".

Although Max Verstappen does not lack the unstoppable urge to get better, for the time being it only remains to hope that Max and Red Bull can fight for the title next year.
