Lewis Hamilton has already broken a huge number of records in 2020. He was able to match Michael Schumacher with the number of World Championships and at the Nürburgring he set that record. Now the Brit has reached a new milestone. At Silverstone, the circuit where he won seven times, there is a section of track named after the seven-time world champion.

The circuit itself announces that in honour of winning his seventh world title, they are going to name the straight at the pit lane after Hamilton. International Pits Straight will henceforth be named the Hamilton Straight. This is the only part of the circuit that is named after a driver. The British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) wants to honour Hamilton for his achievements in Formula 1.

Recognition of performance

The reigning world champion received the news in Abu Dhabi from David Coulthard, chairman of the BRDC. The straight where F1 starts each year, will therefore continue from next year under the name of Lewis Hamilton. "I am happy to be able to bring the news to Lewis on behalf of the BRDC," Coulthard said at the Silverstone site.

"It is the first time in Silverstone's history that part of the circuit has been named after an individual. Lewis has become a major part of motorsport history and I think there is no better way to highlight this than to rename the iconic straight in recognition of all his record-breaking achievements," concludes Coulthard.
