Another new 'inventor' at Ferrari or are the resources being used correctly?

Ferrari is by far the largest brand in Formula 1 and has also achieved the best results in the past. However, when you see how long Ferrari have been in the sport and how much money is thrown in every year, you actually realize that 238 wins and 16 titles are still very meager. Especially when you see what Mercedes has shown what is possible in a much shorter F1 history.

When talking about Ferrari, it is actually always about the successful years of Michael Schumacher between 1996 and 2006. It is not surprising, because in that time span of 11 years Ferrari won 86 of the total 238 victories in history of more than a thousand Grands Prix.

However, the victories were a logical consequence of good management. Jean Todt was in charge of Ferrari and had gathered a good group of people around him. Think of Ross Brawn, but also of the driver who managed to push the team to those great heights: Michael Schumacher.

The potential of Ferrari

This young and especially non-Italian organisation brought peace to the chaos within Ferrari and also resulted in enormous success. It showed the potential of the superpower in Formula 1, who by all means relatively rarely competes for the world title. Actually, with the budget, that should be every year.

However, a lot has changed since the Todt, Brawn and Schumacher era. Since Todt's departure at the end of 2009, we have already seen Stefano Domenicali, Luca di Montezemolo, Sergio Marchionne and, until recently, Louis Camilleri as Ferrari's leader. However, with every new CEO, there are always changes in direction and ideas of their own, forcing the F1 team to start from scratch.

Troubled Italians

We also see these new inventions on the Ferrari shop floor, where the team boss has also changed frequently in recent years. After Todt, Domenicali took up that role in addition to his other position, but since then Marco Mattiacci, Maurizio Arrivabene and Mattia Binotto have come along. Each with their own ideas and their own plans.

As every CEO and team boss wants to reinvent the wheel and lead Ferrari in their own way, Ferrari are always embarking on a new adventure. The road with Camilleri had only just started, but the next proud Italian is able to completely change the whole plan again, while just within the team there is peace and stability with Binotto and the new line-up for 2021 with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
