Ferrari can be found in various motorsport disciplines, of which Formula 1 is of course the showpiece. However, the IndyCar is an interesting outing for the Italian brand and although rumours suggest that Ferrari would no longer be interested, Mattia Binotto contradicts that. Although an expansion is not imminent.

In conversation with Ferrari

According to Roger Penske, there are currently talks with Ferrari about building an IndyCar engine. To Motorsport-Total.com, Penske says: "The recruitment of additional OEMs is one of our key strategies for the NTT IndyCar Series. We will continue to have detailed discussions with several companies that are still interested in participating in the sport."

He continues: "Ferrari is one of the brands that has shown interest and we continue to talk to them about the possibility of joining IndyCar."

However, this will not be in the short term, says Binotto when asked. Ferrari is currently in the process of reorganising its Formula 1 business because of the budget cap that will be introduced in 2021.

As a result, Resta, for example, will be transferred to Haas and Ferrari feels a responsibility towards its employees to keep jobs. That is the highest priority at the moment. Binotto: "We discussed our possible plans with the Indycar leadership and decided that it will not be implemented in the near future.

"Why? Because it requires investment, but more importantly it is because our main task is still our performance in Formula 1. That's what we must focus on. The discussions will continue, but we are talking about a more distant future now," Binotto said.

Ferrari in the IndyCar is not in the short term, that much is clear now.
