RTL: Red Bull monitoring Russell's situation at Mercedes

According to RTL, Red Bull Racing are interested in George Russell. The Austrians are said to be eager to collaborate with the 2018 Formula 2 champion. However, it is not yet known how serious their interest is.

"After his recent performances, Sergio Perez is in pole position in front of the seat next to Max Verstappen. But Helmut Marko and Christian Horner have had their eye on 22-year-old Russell for some time now," RTL wrote on Monday morning. The medium states that Red Bull Racing are closely monitoring the situation of the British driver at Mercedes.

The chance that Russell will compete for the World Championship in 2021 seems very small. Valtteri Bottas already has a contract for next year and it is 99% certain that Lewis Hamilton will also sign up. So the third year with Williams seems likely.

"Should Mercedes not transfer him to the factory team, Red Bull will certainly try to seduce Russell with tasty arguments. Who knows, the British might be sensitive to that. His current Williams contract should be the least of his problems.
