Mick Schumacher will follow in his father's footsteps in 2021. The young German will make his debut in Formula 1 in 2021. Haas have chosen him alongside Nikita Mazepin.

The news has been in the air for a long time, but after the first Grand Prix in Bahrain, Haas finally announces the news. On Tuesday Mazepin was announced as a driver, on Wednesday it is Schumacher's turn.

Schumacher gets the chance in Formula 1

''The prospect of being on the Formula 1 grid next year makes me incredibly happy and I'm just speechless. I would like to thank Haas F1 Team, Scuderia Ferrari and the Ferrari Driver Academy for their confidence in me. I also want to acknowledge my parents and express my love for them - I know I owe them everything. I have always believed that I would make my dream of Formula 1 a reality,'' Schumacher says in Haas' statement.

''A word of thanks should also go to all the great motorsport fans out there who have supported me throughout my career. I will give everything, as I always do, and I look forward to going on this journey together with Haas F1 and them,'' concludes Schumacher who will already be in action for Haas during the first free practice session of Abu Dhabi and will also drive the Young Driver Test. Mazepin reportedly would take that test for Mercedes, but that news has not yet been confirmed.
