Windsor analyses Bahrain Grand Prix: "Perfect control again" from Hamilton

Formula 1 journalist and analyst Peter Windsor is full of praise for Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen's performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Although Verstappen didn't win the race, or directly challenge, Windsor was impressed with Verstappen given the poorer materials he has at his disposal. He does this, as always, on his YouTube channel.

"Perfect control again by the seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton," Windsor said. "He just stamped his authority on the way he drives the lap of Bahrain. I don't want to detract from Max Verstappen's drive either because it was right up there with Lewis with what he did with the available equipment he had. A superb drive from both Max and Lewis, but Lewis was obviously the one in front."

A highlight of the race came on the 22nd lap when it became clear that pit stop and tyre strategy could well determine the winner of the race: "I think the pivotal moment of the race was around lap 21/22 when they both made their pitstops. Lewis had gone on to the mediums again, a second set, he change his medium set for the restart after Romain's incident. Whereas Max had been on a used set. But when they came in for tyres, Max and Red Bull I think did a really good thing here. Lewis came in first for a new set of mediums, whereas Max put on a set of hards. Partly because they didn't have many sets of the mediums left, but partly because they wanted to flip the coin and see what happens," he added.

Hamilton realised

Windsor continues: “Then the pivotal moment was then when Max did a 1:31.000, and Lewis ' first lap was a 1:34.600, Lewis' response was 'what tyres is he on'. He was told Max was on a set of hards, you could almost hear Lewis' mind ticking over. Wow he's on a set of hards, he's going quickly I need to get on with it," he concluded.
