In addition to Lewis Hamilton, four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel is also quite critical of the tires delivered by Pirelli on Friday. The German would rather see the 2019 tires than the ones the Italians arrived in Bahrain with.

New Pirelli tires no step forward

On Friday in Bahrain, during the first two free practice sessions, a mandatory time was set to test the Pirelli rubber for 2021. This was much criticised by the tire manufacturer. Among others from Vettel. Racefans.net quotes the Heppenheimer:

"It wasn't a step forward, rather the opposite. It was probably worth a try, but I hope we won't see these tires again. They're actually a lot worse than the tires we're driving now.

Rather the 2019 tire

Mario Isola defended directly after Friday's sessions. The Italian Pirelli-chief indicated that under no circumstances would he use the same tires as this year next year. Vettel therefore knows enough

"If this tire [of the Friday practice] is the only option for 2021 then I definitely want to keep the 2019 tires. I think that as long as there is no better tire than the current one, we shouldn't use any others. This tire is worse and will only exacerbate the problems we already have".
