Daniel Ricciardo believes that the year 2018 at Red Bull Racing was emotionally very difficult for him. The 31-year-old driver left the Austrian race team after a season of highs and lows. Two years later Ricciardo has been talking all about it.

"Emotionally, that was the most difficult so far," Ricciardo said as quoted by Motorsport-Total.com. The Renault driver said he went through a roller coaster of emotions. "At the beginning of the season it looked like I might be able to fight for the World Championship, then in the middle of the year I realised that I wanted to move on, and towards the end of the year it came down to drop out after drop out."

Eight DNFs

In China and Monaco Ricciardo won in the RB14, but these good results were not followed up by more. In the end the man from Perth finished with 170 points in a disappointing sixth place in the World Championship. In total Ricciardo failed to finish on eight different occasions.

"There were so many emotions, that it was the most difficult year for me until today."

Although his move to Renault didn't immediately result in podium finishes in 2019, Ricciardo did enjoy the season. "It was fun trying to build something with a new team. This year it was even more fun because this set-up led to some good results."
