Ricciardo: "Rosberg did, but for most of us, it would be hard to walk away"

Daniel Ricciardo doesn't know when he will say goodbye to Formula 1. The Australian lets it depend mainly on how competitive his team and himself are. Ricciardo, therefore, finds it difficult to say exactly when he will be finished.

"My longevity in the sport will be dictated on how competitive I am," Ricciardo is quoted by Channel 4. "If Lewis wasn’t in a winning car the last few years, if he was in P8 and P9, would he still be in the sport? It’s questionable."

Ricciardo on his future

The driver who has a contract with McLaren for 2021 and 2022 also wants to be able to compete for the front spots. "I can say today I want to be done by 35, but if I’m winning at 35 and if I’ve still got a chance to win, it would be hard not to keep going," Ricciardo said.

The 31-year-old driver from Perth then cites the example of Nico Rosberg, who immediately called it a day after taking the world title in 2016. “If you’re winning, it’s hard to walk away. (Nico) Rosberg did, but for most of us, it would be hard to walk away while winning," he says.
