Romain Grosjean believes that he has never had a real chance in Formula 1. The Haas F1 driver never stood out in front of a top team. Grosjean himself believes that he entered the pinnacle of motorsport at the wrong time.

"When I think about it, the 1986/1987 generation was perhaps the wrong one to be in. Paul di Resta, Nico Hülkenberg, myself and perhaps Sebastian Buemi as well; we all came in at a time when the seats on the top teams were occupied and the 'old men' didn't want to leave Formula 1 yet. The youngsters came after it and we never really got our chance," says Grosjean in the 'In The Pink' podcast.

Grosjean made his debut for Renault in 2009 and then returned to Lotus in 2012 after an absence of two years. He remained with that team until 2015. Over the past five years, Grosjean has competed for Haas F1. For 2021, a switch to the IndyCar seems the most obvious.

Formula 1 dominated by Mercedes

A top team such as Ferrari, Mercedes or Red Bull is missing from Grosjean's list of achievements. "Anyway, it's no different. You don't have much control over it. Of course you always hope to become world champion, but you also discover that without the right tools you don't stand a chance. I think Formula 1 would be much better if it wasn't dominated by one team."
