Lewis Hamilton moved from McLaren to Mercedes for the 2013 season. It was a huge gamble at the time but it has paid off, as the Brit has equalled Michael Schumacher's seven World Championships. Of course this has a lot to do with the great car that Mercedes have been able to produce since 2014, but Hamilton has explained why the working method at Mercedes also contributed to this.

In a recent interview with Motorsport.com among others, Hamilton talks about the development he and Mercedes have gone through in recent years. According to Hamilton, especially in the last couple of years, the cooperation has become better and better. He thinks it is important that his input is taken seriously.

This is something that was not the same at McLaren in his earlier years in F1. "I always doubted things there. The way they dealt with the tyres and the temperature, that sort of thing. They never listened to me, they just did their thing," said Hamilton.

Hamilton in Schumacher's footsteps

Hamilton says he has been able to have his say on the aerodynamic balance of the car over the years: "The team will make a simulation that will tell you what the best car is, but that simulation can't do what I can. You also need feeling."

The Brit admits that he's also wrong now and then, but that's part of the course. He sees Michael Schumacher as an example of how he works. "Now I understand better and better what Michael's approach was. I think it may be comparable to what I have done. You have to be at the helm together."
