In 2013, Sergio Perez joined McLaren as a replacement for Lewis Hamilton but this did not turn out to be a success story for the Mexican. The following year, the Perez left and settled with Force India, currently known as Racing Point. In those seasons he says he learned a lot. A second chance with a top team would be much better for him to seize.

"Going there, things that didn’t work," says Perez to Racefans.net about his time at McLaren. He has been driving for Racing Point for seven years now. "Then being seven years with a different team, being in the sport, the level of [maturity], the level of knowledge, experience. I’m such a different driver, definitely much more ready to make it work than last time.”

Perez aims for fourth place

Sergio Perez is currently in fourth place in the World Championship with 100 points. His margin to number five Charles Leclerc is just three points, while Daniel Ricciardo still has a chance at that coveted P4 with 96 points. Perez missed both Grands Prix at Silverstone because of a coronavirus infection, limiting his chances of stretching the lead.

Even though his chances of a fourth-place are life-sized, a 2021 seat is still no certainty. Perez says: "I think it’s part of Formula 1. I always knew this is how it is. I can call myself a privileged. I’ve had a great career, 10 years in Formula 1 up to now," said the 30-year-old driver, who is very proud of what he has achieved in recent years in the pinnacle of motorsport.
