McLaren driver Lando Norris, has come to face scrutiny over a bold overtaking move on George Russell near the end of the Turkish GP. His move has been labelled as too aggressive, despite not having caused an investigation. As reported by Formula1.com, Norris does not agree with this analysis.

Norris felt forced to race as he did due to the conditions on the track last Sunday: “It wasn’t aggressive because it’s not; it’s the track’s fault, not my fault.”

The cold track, the new asphalt, and the rainy weather meant Norris had no choice, he says.

“You can’t overtake here because you’ve rubbered in the line and there’s only one line which has any grip, and I had to go off line to do something,” the British driver argues.

“Otherwise it was going to be the most boring race in the world and I’m not just going to sit behind him.”

Fair play

“I went for him, which was fair – he left space, so fair play to him. But it was just zero grip. It’s difficult. This track, this surface here just causes no racing and it’s very difficult to do anything else apart from to be aggressive and forceful.”
