International media after Hamilton’s seventh title: "Best F1 driver ever"

Lewis Hamilton has secured a record equalling, seventh Formula 1 World Championship! The world of motorsport has been full of praise for the Brit but how did the media react to his achievement?

The French newspaper, which is usually quite critical in its reviews, gave Hamilton the maximum score for his victory in the Turkish capital with a 10. "As so often this season, he gets the highest marks. It is not illogical. With a sixth place in qualifying, a new victory was not yet a foregone conclusion. But by holding out for 53 laps on the intermediates and not making any mistakes, unlike his rivals, he took his 94th victory. It is one of the most moving and important victories of his career."

"Sure: from a German perspective, Michael Schumacher will always be the best Formula 1 driver of all time. That is emotionally true, but rationally the Mercedes star has now overtaken the German record world champion. And rightly so. The best indication of this is always the duels with the teammates. And there the Briton defeated the double world champion Fernando Alonso in his first Formula 1 season, later reigning champion Jenson Button (both at McLaren), at Mercedes twice Nico Rosberg, since then he has defeated Valtteri Bottas every time."

The Italian sports newspaper gave Hamilton, just like L'Equipe, a 10 for his performance on Sunday. "In an epic, wet race, his greatness as a driver is once again confirmed. He now has as many titles as Schumacher and is therefore a legend. In extreme circumstances all his talent, experience and skills came to the fore. Lewis is capable of incredible performance. If he manages to win so much, it's not only thanks to a dominant Mercedes."

Marca from Spain couldn't  help but give the maximum score to the 35-year-old with a 100. "He became champion in the most complicated Grand Prix of the year. In his 'most uncomfortable weekend' he made sure he didn't have to stop for a pit stop again and beat his rivals with all his talent."

Sky Sports

The British source noted that Hamilton now holds virtually all the records in Formula 1. "In a race in which numerous drivers could have won in challenging wet conditions, Hamilton pulled off an unlikely but fitting triumph from sixth on the grid to seal his seventh title in the 94th win of an unprecedented career. Already the record holder for the most victories, pole positions, podiums and points, Hamilton's equalling of Schumacher's prestigious titles record means he is now statistically the most successful F1 driver of all time."
