Marko about Verstappen: "That's frustrating, but he should have been more patient"

For Red Bull Racing, the Turkish Grand Prix did not go as expected in the end. Max Verstappen already started with a backlog, because he and Alexander Albon didn't have a good start. They were forced to play catch up from the first lap and eventually finished in sixth and seventh place.

Advisor Helmut Marko said he was not satisfied with the team's performance. "It was a major disaster right at the start. After that Max was stuck behind Vettel and with experienced drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez around us it wasn't made easy for us either," Marko told Sky Deutschland.

Future of Albon still uncertain

Subsequently, Verstappen and Albon made a number of mistakes during the race, including several spins. "Max only saw Stroll run away and that's frustrating of course because you couldn't catch up well without DRS. He just also should have been more patient with Perez," Marko thinks. The other driver from Red Bull, Albon, also saw his podium chances disappear due to tyres getting worse and worse.

"His mistakes are costly, but he drove well until the first pit stop." Marko therefore also explains that the choice for 2021 will not be made until the end of the shortened season due to the pandemic. "After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix we will make a decision about his future with us," Marko said.
