Red Bull Racing do not expect support from Ferrari. The Austrian team wants to freeze engine development from 2022 so that it can take over Honda's engine, but that is not what Ferrari want to do.

With the departure of Honda, Red Bull have a problem. Both teams will no longer have an engine from 2022, so something new has to be found. Red Bull wants to maintain the engine itself, but don't want to spend any more money on developing it. However, Ferrari is fiercely opposed to this.

Ferrari against Red Bull's proposal

''We are strongly opposed to freezing engine development. That is contrary to the spirit of Formula 1. It is important to mention that the current rules will stop development as early as 2023 and the sport also wants to become more sustainable'', says Louis Camilleri to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Camilleri does not believe that Honda are an example for other suppliers to leave F1. ''I don't believe that will happen, but it will speed up the process of developing a new engine for the future. The FIA, Liberty Media and the engine suppliers need to find a balance between innovation, sustainability and cost. The latter, in particular, is often forgotten and poses a great danger to everyone'', concludes Ferrari's CEO.
