The Red Bull Racing pit crew were razor-sharp again on Sunday afternoon at the Portimao circuit. The mechanics of the Austrian racing team completed Alexander Albon's pit stop in about 1.8 seconds, which may be a new world record. However, the team of Max Verstappen and Albon have to wait in suspense, because the official times have still not been announced.

Normally, partner DHL will announce the exact times a few hours later, but Portugal is an exception to this. It is unclear why Red Bull now needs to be more patient.

Are Red Bull now successful?

The world record is now at 1.82 seconds, set during a pit stop by Max Verstappen in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Red Bull came very close to this time earlier this year by setting a time of 1.86. Almost twelve months later, the world record may have been broken.

Red Bull team principal is therefore delighted: "Congratulations to our pit crew who seem to have broken the world record again. Moreover, they managed to complete all three pit stops in less than 1.9 seconds. A very good performance", said the British boss.

Red Bull top in 2020

The Milton Keynes-based formation is at a lonely height this year in terms of pit stops. In the DHL Fastest Lap, Red Bull are already more than 140 points ahead of closest rival Mercedes prior to the GP weekend. That margin has only widened after the weekend's exceptional performance.
