Formula 1 will visit Portimao in Portugal this weekend and for many drivers this is new territory. Formula 1 has never been there before and that means a challenge for the teams. They don't have any data at their disposal and the drivers will have to get used to it quickly. Nevertheless, the men from Ferrari are looking forward to it.

New environment for Vettel

Just as Mugello was new territory for many F1 teams, they have the same in Portugal and we all know how spectacular that race was in Italy. Now that does not guarantee excitement at the Grand Prix this weekend, nevertheless, new circuits are always interesting by definition. In any case, Sebastian Vettel is happy, but also notes challenges.

"I’ve never raced at Portimão, so I have no first-hand experience on which to assess it, but I always find it very stimulating to race at a new track," says the German in the preview of Ferrari.

"From studying the layout, I can see there are a lot of gradient changes and several blind corners which will be difficult to judge. It will be important to make the most of free practice to get the hang of the circuit as quickly as possible."

Known territory for Leclerc

Unlike Vettel, Charles Leclerc does have experience on this circuit, as he has driven Formula 3 there in the past. "From what I remember, it’s great fun to drive with a lot of climbs and drops. It’s a modern and interesting circuit and the weather should be a lot warmer than at the last race in Germany.

"It will be interesting to check the handling of our car on all the different types of corners with higher temperatures," said the Monegasque. What's more, Ferrari is putting the latest developments on the SF1000 this weekend to complete the development track started earlier this year.
