Wolff: "Valtteri's great strength is his resilience"

Valtteri Bottas had a disappointing weekend during the GP of Eifel. The Finn was in first place for a long time during the race, but lost that place after a mistake and, to make matters worse, had to abandon his race prematurely due to engine problems. But team boss Toto Wolff thinks his driver will only come back stronger.

Happiness and sorrow were very close to each other for Mercedes during the GP of Eifel. Where reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton took his 91st victory of his career and matched Michael Schumacher 's record, Valtteri Bottas' race was so disappointing. About halfway through the race he had to drive his car into the pits, because there were problems with one of the engine parts.

"It was a very special moment for us when Lewis crossed the finish line and took his 91 victory. It couldn't have been much worse for Valtteri," the Austrian team boss says to Speedweek. “Valtteri started from pole but was unable to continue the race due to an electrical problem, losing valuable points in the battle for the world title. At this point in the season, this is, of course, a huge disappointment for him. There was a problem with the control electronics, it was better to stop him immediately to limit the damage."

Wolff continues: "Failure is hard for any driver, but Valtteri's great strengths are his resilience and his will to fight back. So he will certainly feel like starting again in Portugal."
