Two-day race weekend unavoidable after Eifel GP? "No doubt about it"

At the Nürburgring, the perfect example of why a two-day race weekend can work was created. Due to the thick fog, the entire Friday fell away and the drivers could only enter the track on Saturday. As a result, the teams knew much less about the tyres and how the race was going to go. The drivers hope that the FIA is looking forward to a two-day race weekend.

According to Valtteri Bottas, a two-day race weekend provides less information, which can be good for the Grand Prix. "I have no doubt about that. The more you can practice, the more detailed you can be," Bottas explains to Motorsport.com. "All the more so on Fridays, when you can watch the car all night between sessions and learn what can be done better."

Much less time to optimise

Not only Bottas is satisfied with a two-day race weekend, Alexander Albon is also happy with a two-day format. "Especially for the F2 and F3 drivers, who are used to a single practice session. It's not very different from now. It just means you have to be a bit faster and you can practice less at ease."

Lewis Hamilton especially understands that it is going to be more difficult for the drivers. "I think it is going to be more difficult for us. Normally you have two sessions on Friday and that gives you time to make a lot of changes. Suppose you're wrong, you have time to improve things. If you start on Saturday, you don't have that time. Then you have a session to understand everything and get ready for qualifying and the race," concludes Hamilton.
