Verstappen sees opportunities: "I didn't like the Halo at first either"

Formula 1 is now used to the Halo, but there are also more and more voices on the possible arrival of an aeroscreen. Max Verstappen sees something in this screen.

Aeroscreen or Halo?

Prior to the Formula 1 season of 2018, a Halo was chosen in F1. This Halo should ensure that the driver's head is no longer as vulnerable to flying parts as it was in the past and also protects the head in contact with another car.

Another option at the time was the aeroscreen, which was developed by Red Bull Technology. However, most of the votes went to the Halo. Indy Car does use the aeroscreen and that is positively received. Where a Halo still has openings for debris, this is not the case with the aeroscreen.

''Yes, it certainly looks good and very safe. I had to get used to it, because I am used to an open cockpit. I didn't like the Halo at first either, but for safety's sake it's just very important to do this. It just seems a bit warm to me," says Verstappen in Red Bull's Talking Bull podcast.

Takuma Sato, who is also in the broadcast, can answer that last statement with a 'yes'. It is indeed getting very hot in that car, but the advantage is that nothing can hit the driver. Romain Grosjean's finger, for example, was hit by gravel this weekend, which could never happen with an aeroscreen.
