Max Verstappen is ready for his first Grand Prix of Portugal and before that he spoke in the podcast of Red Bull. Is he still enjoying racing when he can't win and how does racing without an audience feel?

Verstappen wants to win

The Formula 1 season of 2020 was pretty messed up by the coronavirus and did not restart until July. This had to be done without an audience and unfortunately for many fans, it was once again Mercedes that came out on top as the best team. While for many fans it is starting to get boring in the meantime, for Verstappen this is not yet the case.

"Of course I enjoy it more if I can stand on that highest step, but you also have to be realistic. If the other team is so dominant, then sometimes you just have to be happy with a second or third place. I also just enjoy spraying champagne on stage," says Verstappen in the Talking Bull podcast.

Racing without fans

"The trophies were much nicer ten to fifteen years ago. When I look at the trophy cabinet in Milton Keynes, today's cups are sometimes a bit boring. I don't really care, because it's more about the memory of a victory and of course just the fact that you achieved that result."

For Verstappen, racing without fans feels different next to the track, but not much has changed on the track. "It feels a bit like a test session, but we can already be happy to race again. Of course it's a pity the fans aren't allowed to be there, but when that helmet goes on it's back to normal. In the car you do the same as before," concludes the Dutchman.
