Ferrari are having a difficult season. The Italian team with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc behind the wheel are in fifth place with eighty points after eleven races. 2020 is lost has been dismal but it doesn't look as if it will be a quick fix for next year either.

No quick recovery for Ferrari

Leclerc was lucky enough to get two podiums this season. That has saved Ferrari in the World Championship standings but it is is still damage limitation for the Scuderia. Otherwise the Italian team would still be below Alpha Tauri and would only be above Alfa Romeo, Haas F1 and Williams who scored five, three and zero points respectively.

Leclerc said in an interview with Welt that things are not going to get better for Ferrari any time soon: "There will be no quick recovery for Ferrari."

Not competitive again until 2022

Leclerc's task is to help make this difficult phase as short as possible. Until then, it is important to remain sporty and patient. "Of course I would rather not settle for fifth or sixth place, I will never settle for that either. I am now satisfied with progress. We need to be ready as soon as possible, for myself and for Ferrari."

"In terms of performance, it will be difficult to perform miracles in 2021. Significant changes are planned for 2022. From there, the same car concepts will be raced for many years to come. We have to start that phase well, very competitive and full of vigor," concluded Leclerc.
