It would've been such a beautiful moment; Mick Schumacher's debut in Formula 1 at the Nürburgring would be twenty years after winning Michael Schumacher's first world title with Ferrari. For former Ferrari President Luca di Montezemelo this would be a good moment to look back on.

Debut Mick Schumacher

With the exception of one day, it would have been exactly 20 years ago. On 8 October 2000, Michael Schumacher secured his first world title with Ferrari by winning the Japanese Grand Prix. On 9 October 2020 Mick would get into a Formula 1 car for the first free practice session at the Nürburgring. Unfortunately, the fog threw a spanner in the works and we still have to wait for the young Schumacher's Formula 1 debut.

First World Championship

The Schumacher World Cup in 2000 put an end to a long drought for the Italians. The last time a driver became world champion in a Ferrari was in 1979. In the Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta Di Montezemelo looks back at this moment. "Twenty years ago we won the world championship in Japan with Michael Schumacher, as we had not done since 1979. So a final thank-you to Michael and to all those who have dedicated themselves to this goal", he says. "It is the most beautiful professional moment of my life."
