The world of motorsport was amazed by Luca Corberi, who attempted to hit another driver by throwing his front bumper during the FIA World Championship Karting KZ in Lonato. Formula 1 drivers also showed their indignation. The FIA is now officially starting an investigation.

Suspension of those involved

At the end of the race Corberi Ippolito attacked, and father Marco Corberi also got involved in the confrontation. Earlier the licenses of father and son Corberi were already suspended and the license at the Lonato circuit, of which father Corberi is the director, has been withdrawn for the time being. Today, the FIA announced that it will officially launch a disciplinary investigation into the incident.

Statement by the FIA

On the FIA website, the following can be read: "In accordance with the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, the FIA President Jean Todt has formally initiated a disciplinary inquiry into the actions and conduct of Mr Luca Corberi that occurred during the event. Following such inquiry, the FIA President may in particular decide to bring the matter before the FIA International Tribunal for determination.”

“The purpose of the disciplinary inquiry is to gather all available evidence and to hear any person likely to provide witness statements in order to draw an inquiry report that might serve as the basis of the referral of the case before the FIA International Tribunal", concludes the statement.
