Racing Point don't understand: "No idea where Ferrari's speed comes from"

Daniel Ricciardo and Sergio Perez watched a considerable part of the race behind Charles Leclerc's rear wing at the Nürburgring last weekend. The Ferrari was obviously too slow, but how did he get the SF1000 into such a good starting position? That is a mystery for Racing Point as well.

"It is something we do, like a lot of teams, I’m sure; we spend a lot of time just making sure we get our Sunday afternoon car right and we do compromise our Saturday afternoon, if we have to, for our Sunday afternoon pace", said Andrew Green, Technical Director of Racing Point, to RaceFans.net. 

Green says it's something his team needs to look into, because come raceday Racing Point often need to play catchup. There's one team especially that seems to get it right on Saturday and that's Ferrari.

Racing Point often has to fight its way to the front

At the Eifel Grand Prix last weekend Charles Leclerc qualified fourth. A very good performance considering the speed of teams like Renault, McLaren and Racing Point during the rest of the weekend. Green can't explain where the man from Monaco gets that speed from.

"I don’t know where they get that pace from on a Saturday afternoon. But come Sunday, they’re a good half a second behind us, which is very strange". Whether it is something the team can influence remains to be seen, because for the time being only one of the Ferrari drivers is able to do so.
