Lewis Hamilton equalled Michael Schumacher's record number of victories at the Nürburgring and seems increasingly on the way to breaking those records. For Sebastian Vettel, however, this does not detract from 'his hero'.

Hamilton versus Schumacher

Hamilton is on its way to break all Schumacher's records. He now equals the record number of victories, but will do the same at the end of 2020 in terms of the number of world titles. For Vettel, however, Schumacher remains the greatest driver of all time, with whom he saw something special.

''I always thought that Michael's record would never be broken, but we can now be sure that Hamilton will improve it. However, that does not alter the fact that Michael will always be my hero. I think that Michael had something special about him, which I haven't seen with another driver in Formula 1'', says Vettel according to Motorsport.com.

Vettel does not look at others

''I think Michael was better than everyone else so far. He had a natural talent which is very difficult to explain. What I saw of him in the Race of Champions and in karting, I have not seen in anyone else. Add to that how hard he worked and that combination stands out to me. I've never seen that before.''

However, Vettel realises that the comparison between Hamilton and Schumacher is difficult for him. ''As a child I looked up to Michael and I didn't have that with Lewis. We race against each other so that's a different situation. In 10 to 20 years I'll look back on that differently, but when you're active you don't look so much at other drivers'', concludes the four-time world champion.
