Hamilton speechless after equalling Schumacher record: "I looked up to him"

Lewis Hamilton matched Michael Schumacher's record of 91 F1 race victories at the Nürburgring. The Brit took a superb win at the Nurburgring to equal another of the German's records.

"We had a good start, only Valtteri and I both had understeer. However, he did a good job and I remember thinking: 'You did a good job'. I could see, however, that his front tyres soon bothered him, so it was nice that he stopped early. I was able to take good care of my tyres, fortunately. It really wasn't easy today. Max drove very well. The only chance he had was at the restart, but I managed to keep him behind me," Hamilton explained after the race.

A very special gift

Hamilton received a helmet from the Mick Schumacher on behalf of the Schumacher family in honour of his extraordinary achievement. "I don't know what to say now. When you grow up you always look up to someone. You look up to what they do every week. I remember playing a game as Michael when I was young. It's very special to see him so dominant and I never thought I would come close to his record. It's a huge honour," said the reigning world champion.

Hamilton will look to equal another of Schumacher's records later this year as he aims to claim his seventh world title.
