Motorsport Association calls emergency meeting regarding engine dilemma

Criticism from various team bosses and F1 fans has not gone unnoticed by the FIA. The departure of Honda exposes a painful problem in the sport. The union has now scheduled an emergency meeting in Portimao.

Several team bosses and F1 watchers have already criticised the FIA's engine policy. It is very expensive and complex to develop an engine, and therefore no new manufacturers want to enter the sport. The Motorsport Association has responded to these criticisms and has scheduled an emergency meeting on Monday after the race in Portimao, writes Auto, Motor, und Sport.

Plan B

"Honda's decision puts pressure on the FIA and Liberty Media to come up with a plan B," explains the German outlet. "But with the current engines this is not possible. That's why the team bosses will meet after the race in Portimao. During this meeting there will be a meeting about the short term strategy of Formula 1. The ultimate goal is to find a solution to the problem with the engine suppliers that the sport is now facing."

There are two options. "The team bosses can choose to introduce a completely new technology. This will be tailored to the needs of large-scale production. This will attract manufacturers to the sport. The alternative is a simpler power source from 2023 that can be introduced at the same time as biofuel. This will ensure that sport can finally move in the sustainable direction that it has wanted for so long."
