Verstappen condemns aggressive karter: 'That's how I ended up with stewards'

Last weekend there was no Grand Prix and it was relatively quiet in other racing classes as well. So there was an opportunity for the World Karting Championship to be in the spotlight. Unfortunately, that happened for the wrong reasons. The world of F1 also took notice of the controversial series of events.

Karter Luca Corberi was in the news last week when footage of him appeared of him, after a crash, throwing the bumper of his kart at the head of a competitor.

On the internet, former world champion Jenson Button did not have a good word for this and the current F1 drivers are also clear in their opinion. Including George Russell and Max Verstappen, who also raced against Corberi in the karts.

Keeping emotions under control

"I didn't know him this way," said Russell at the press conference in Germany. "He put himself and others in enormous danger with his actions on the road and what happened in the pits afterwards is ultimately unacceptable in all walks of life. There is no excuse for that."

Verstappen relates it to his own situation two years ago, when he pushed Esteban Ocon out of the leadership of Brazil's Grand Prix. "I think there are always emotions and disagreements in sport, but it has to be a conversation. I think that's why I ended up at the stewards' meeting," said the Red Bull rider according to Motorsport-Magazin.com about the community service he received at the time.
