The Nurburgring returns to the Formula 1 calendar after seven years of absence. This weekend the Grand Prix of the Eifel is scheduled on the German circuit. Normally there wouldn't be a GP this season in Germany, but due to the corona virus the circuit got a chance.

"We have always hoped to see Formula 1 again. But unfortunately, in the past it was not possible under economic conditions. Now we are all the happier that we have withstood the corona crisis", says general manager of the circuit Mirco Marktfort at the Giessener-allgemeine.de.

Permanent place on the calendar again?

Marktfort hopes that he won't have to wait another seven years to organise a Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. With Sebastian Vettel almost stepping out of Formula 1, it seemed for a while that Germany would no longer have any drivers. But due to the switch from Vettel to Aston Martin, Mick Schumacher possibly joining Alfa Romeo and a quiet hope for the return of Nico Hulkenberg, Marktfort sees it as positive.

"Mick Schumacher in particular, with his father's name and successes and the driving skills he has shown in recent years, enables us to look to the future in a more positive way", says Marktfort. He expects a lot of spectators to come to the race when he and Vettel compete in F1. "But the Dutch fans are also very interested in us because of Max Verstappen."
