The Williams Formula 1 team will still carry that name next year, but for the first time it will no longer be in the hands of that family when the season starts. Thanks to the new investors, the team hopes to be able to compete with equal resources soon.

This is evident from the words of Simon Roberts, Williams' new team boss. For this season, Dorilton Capital's investment will not change much, according to him, but next year the team wants to take a step towards the planned budget cap of $145 million. An amount that the team has not yet reached.

Williams is not going to spend money unnecessarily

"Our budget is based on getting towards the cost cap," Roberts said to Formula1.com. “This year it’s too late. We’ve only got four months to go and we’re pretty much set on where we are headed. But for next year, we are looking at what we can do and we now have the finances behind us to do that. But it’s not a given. We will only spend money and invest where it makes sense.”

Roberts thinks the new regulations will help his team, although of course you always have to take loopholes into account. "It's a huge step from where we are now. Basically the intent is good, but how the intent plays out, only time will tell. We can’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be as expected, subject to any loopholes or quirks."
