The news that Honda will leave Formula 1 after 2021 came as a surprise to many. The Japanese engine manufacturer leaves Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri with the question of which engine they will use from 2022, when there will be new regulations. Until then, however, Honda will continue to supply engines for Red Bull and AlphaTauri, with high expectations.

"Takahiro Hachigo, President and CEO of Honda has indicated that their goal is to win the championship next year before saying goodbye to the sport," F1 journalist Lawrence Barretto explained in his analysis on Formula1.com. He expects big things to come from Honda next season.

Impact on performance

"Honda has shown over the years that they will always give everything they have to chase success, no matter how much pressure they put on their shoulders, so Red Bull and AlphaTauri won't be much slower next year in any caseThe Japanese manufacturer will, of course, continue to work on next year's engine.

"However, since they won't have to develop anything after 2021, there will be an impact on performance. What's more, they will get a certain amount of money to spend from Honda, instead of an unlimited amount, as they adjust their target. So it could have an impact if Honda has problems with their new engine," concluded Barretto.
