We are half way through the season, with eight races to go. Ferrari has already slightly shifted its focus to 2021 and wants to correct as many of the car's weaknesses as possible in Sochi.

Sports director Laurent Mekies looks back on the first half of the season for the team in Ferrari's preview of Sochi. "I think everyone worked together really well – the FIA, Formula 1, the teams and media - and managed to pull off something that had looked far from obvious just back in May", he says about the still fully-fledged 2020 calendar.

Bad year for Ferrari

For Ferrari itself, 2020 is so far a year to be quickly forgotten. "The first part of the season proved to be very difficult for the Scuderia, as can be seen from the results. But it’s not in our nature to give up under any circumstances." The Italians are currently in sixth place in the constructors' championship with only 66 points.

Focus on 2021

Sochi is not a circuit where Ferrari has done good business in recent years, but the team is taking some small aerodynamic updates to Russia. "This is part of the plan which extends over the next few races to correct as far as possible the weaknesses seen in recent races, particularly with a view to 2021. We’re not expecting this small package to make a big change but it will allow us to check its functionality and give us a baseline for future developments", concludes Mekies.
