Due to the coronavirus, F1 and FOM had to improvise enormously with the calendar for 2020. Because a lot of races had to be cancelled because of the virus, solutions had to be found to get a complete calendar. The final solution was the addition of new circuits to the calendar.

Last Sunday Mugello was the first new circuit where F1 is going to race. It was a race with a lot of spectacles and a lot of action. It raises the question if there should be more new circuits on the F1 calendar. According to Christian Horner, team boss of Red Bull Racing, that opportunity could just come.

A place on the calendar for new GP

It is great that F1 is going to these different venues and we have some more coming up in Istanbul and Imola," Horner explained to Autosport. Horner can see that many circuits do not have the budget for an F1 race, but he sees a solution for that as well.

It keeps up the competition for a place for one of the 22 slots on the calendar and I think it would be good to have some sort of invitation race once a year to take in these different tracks." This may mean that circuits such as Sepang, Jerez and Fuji also have a chance of winning a race, as they all have the appropriate license to organise an F1 race.
