After an absence of nine years, the Grand Prix of Turkey on the circuit of Istanbul returns to the calendar this season. It is an emergency return, but the race seems to be more popular than ever.

The Grand Prix at Instanbul Park was known in the past as one of the drivers' favourites, but the fan turnout was usually low. Between 2005 and 2011, Formula 1 often drove there in front of largely empty grandstands.

Capacity and price an important factor

That picture was reinforced by the enormous capacity that the circuit has in potential. In total there are over 220,000 seats. That is also the reason why the organisation of the race in 2020 sees the possibility of making 100,000 tickets available. Enough room to keep your distance.

And that ticket sales are running smoothly, unlike in the past. Within six hours, 40 000 tickets have been sold, so a house that is sold out is not excluded. This popularity is helped by the price of the tickets. A ticket for the race costs just over three euros and for an entire weekend, you only pay a tenner.
