Formula 1 teams have received a warning from the FIA. Next season the budget cap will come into effect and therefore teams are not allowed to build up a large stock of spare parts this year.

Budget ceiling

Next season's budget ceiling is USD 145 million. This year is the last year the teams will be allowed to spend unlimited amounts of money. This may lead to teams choosing to produce a wide range of spare parts this year. The cars of 2020 and 2021 will not differ much from each other.

Stockpiling

McLaren CEO Zak Brown admits that the FIA has announced that it is not the intention of the teams to build up a large stock. "Talks are indeed going on about stockpiling for next season in order to channel next season's money into 2022. The FIA has seen this coming and is on top of it," said Brown according to the Dutch branch of Motorsport.com.

"They will set rules to prevent a lot of money for 2021 from being used before 2022 and giving teams a head start," Brown continued. The American doesn't know if any teams are already hoarding.
