Verstappen: "It really doesn't matter who drives next to me"

At Red Bull Racing, after the departure of Daniel Ricciardo, the second driver next to Max Verstappen is fairly in their stomachs. Pierre Gasly was extremely disappointing in 2019 and Alexander Albon is not yet convincing either. The only one who doesn't seem to care is Verstappen himself.

Analysts have repeatedly discussed in the media how the lack of a quick team member can be detrimental to Verstappen. He would benefit more from someone who is on his heels, not only in battle with Mercedes, but also for his own motivation. Verstappen has always contradicted the latter, but he doesn't really seem to like it at all.

Verstappen already has enough experience

"Helmut Marko and Christian Horner have been saying for some time that they do not want to change anything, that is fine by me. It really doesn't matter who drives next to me, because I would beat them all", says the confident Dutchman on Austrian TV-station ORF.

He also waves away the suggestion that it would be better for an experienced driver to join the team, as was the case with Ricciardo. In his first year at Red Bull Racing that may have been useful, but he says he now knows exactly what he has to do to be successful.
