With all the events at the Monza Grand Prix, where Gasly, Sainz and Stroll took the podium, the idea of a reversed grid is back. Ross Brawn of Formula 1 said that that race showed exactly what the added value of a reversed grid would be. In doing so, Brawn would like to discuss it again. When Vettel is asked for his opinion, he clearly shows he doesn't see anything in it, he calls it "completely wrong".

Then you have failed

"If you are pushing in that direction, it’s a testimony that you failed to come up with regulations and tools that bring the field more together and make racing better on the track," said the four-time German champion when asked by RaceFans.

"I mean, as a reminder, we had new front wing regulations which cost everybody a fortune, but ultimately haven’t changed much in terms of racing," Vettel says, indicating that the changes to the rules were inadequate in practice and that a reversed grid would be a bad alternative.

It shouldn't be a lottery

"Obviously the hopes are on 2022 for the regulation changes. I think we need to fix that and address the main points rather than trying to play the lottery. It's just against the element of sport and competition". So he's clearly an opponent of the concept and he's even taking it a step further.

"As a competitor, as much as I don’t like other people to win, I have to accept if other people win or do a better job. Therefore I think it would be wrong in the name of sport to try and mix things up that way", says Vettel.
