Verstappen sees opportunities: "Important that we get through the first corner"

In qualifying Max Verstappen was very close to the two Mercedes drivers. The Dutchman is often faster on Sunday than on Saturday, so the expectation is that Red Bull Racing could be a danger for Mercedes in Mugello. Verstappen himself doesn't expect big things yet and doesn't want to suffer any damage.

"Fortunately, the wind should be good for the following car. First of all, I just want to have a clean start. Then we just have to see what is going to happen in the first corner, first lap and in the first stint. I think we have a decent racecar. Our top speed is good for once."

Important to follow Mercedes

The Dutchman explains in the preview on the Youtube channel of Formula 1 that it is not yet clear what the strategy will be. "The track is very heavy for the tyres, so it will not be easy to look after them". It is warm in Mugello, which could be to the advantage of Verstappen.

"It will be nice and warm today and therefore it will be really hard on the tyres. That's not really bad for us but Mercedes has probably learned from what happened at Silverstone. It won't be easy". Verstappen sees that there are opportunities. "I hope it will be a nice race, the weekend looks positive so far. It's just important that we can follow Mercedes", said Verstappen.
