Button jokes after winning Gasly: ''Red Bull should give this boy a chance''

On Sunday Pierre Gasly was the surprising winner of the Italian Grand Prix. The Frenchman has experienced a roller coaster as a sportsman and as a human being for the past year and a half and, according to many, he is finally getting what he deserves.

In 2019, Gasly has the chance of a lifetime when he can fill the spot at Red Bull Racing after the departure of Daniel Ricciardo. However, the seat next to Max Verstappen turns out to be too early for the young Frenchman, who is not yet up to the Dutchman. He has to go back, loses his good friend Anthoine Hubert and is on the podium in Brazil. Add to that the victory and the roller coaster ride is complete.

Gasly strikes back

''They should give this guy a chance at Red Bull," jokes Button after the race at Sky Sports. ''He was given the chance to drive for a top team at a very young age, but was also put back very quickly. But he did a great job for AlphaTauri this year,'' says the 2009 world champion.

''He has learned a lot and has gone through a lot of emotions over the past period. As a driver he has had to pick himself up after someone else got his place at Red Bull. This makes you stronger as a driver, to get through tough times. This year he is making great progress and has put a lot of confidence in himself. Victory will only make that happen more and more,'' Button concludes.
