Marko after crash Verstappen: "The balance is lost"

Red Bull Racing have been waiting for a podium finish at the Italian Grand Prix since 2013. It will be a big challenge for them to win the race at Monza this weeken. Max Verstappen did show a lot of speed during the race at Spa-Francorchamps and took a podium, even though the car was misaligned according to advisor Helmut Marko.

Wrong adjustment

Verstappen was unable to attack at the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton last week at Spa. Marko has now revealed that the car was too tuned to possible rainfall during the race in Belgium.

"We didn't bring an extra wing because we have Verstappen. In hindsight that wasn't good," Marko explained to the Kronen Zeitung. However, there was no rain in the Belgian Ardennes. The RB16 lacked speed and at the same time, the tire wear increased.

Weekend in Italy

This weekend, the Formula 1 Circus landed at the Monza circuit, where Red Bull haven't been on the podium since 2013. "It's not easy. Spa and Monza are not ideal circuits for us, but we came third in Belgium, although we couldn't make the most of the car's potential. And now we have to see how the effects of abolishing party mode are shown," continued Marko.

The Italian Grand Prix started Red Bull would have hoped. In the first free practice, Verstappen spun into the Ascari curves and damaged his car. "The car wasn't the same after the crash," explained Marko to ORF. "The balance was lost. We have to look, it was definitely the underside, hopefully nothing else."
