Horner about crash Verstappen: "Something must have been wrong with the balance"

Christian Horner has revealed that the front wing of Max Verstappen was not the only damage the Dutch driver sustained in FP1. Horner said that repairs must also be carried out on the floor of the car, prior to FP2.

"Luckily only the front wing broke off and there is some damage to the underside of the car," Red Bull's team boss told Sky Sports. "Where he flew off the track, you drive at high speed, so it could have been much worse".

In the first free practice, Verstappen lost control of his car in the Ascari-chicane and slid through the gravel against a pile of tyres. The young Dutchman was able to get away from the gravel and drive back to the pit lane with damage to the front wing and floor. The crash caused a red flag.

Confusion about the crash

Verstappen himself was surprised by the crash. "He was quite surprised when I saw him sitting like that in the pit box," said Horner. "Something must have gone wrong there."
