Valtteri Bottas' performance at the Belgian Grand Prix came in for criticism from former F1 driver Jolyon Palmer. According to the Brit, the Finn is too cautious and makes the life of his teammate Lewis Hamilton far too easy.

Hamilton was not challenged

During the race little happened at the front of the field. Especially the first curves of the first laps were interesting. Although the first four cars survived the first lap in starting order, the race could have been made there.

Renault was strong and Daniel Ricciardo joined right behind Max Verstappen. Due to a small gearshift error by Lewis Hamilton, the race leader, the three drivers behind him shoved together. On the Kemmel Straight it became exciting. "In the end everything worked out in favour of Hamilton, who was not challenged later in the race," reports Jolyon Palmer.

Bottas indecisive and too cautious

On the F1 website the analyst continues: "The start promised to be a crucial moment for Bottas. However, he was indecisive and too cautious. He therefore let Hamilton drive away easily. It was the same case as during the British Grand Prix".

Palmer concludes: "Hamilton has the pace at the moment and is doing well, but the cautious Bottas in wheel-to-wheel combat also makes it very easy for the six-time world champion".
