Earlier this week it was announced that Renault had withdrawn their protest against Racing Point's penalty. Renault wanted clarity on the direction of Formula 1 and, according to Cyril Abiteboul, they got it.

"What we have been striving for from the outset is that there is clarity of Formula 1 and the FIA. The Formula One championship has to be a constructors' championship and that means you have ten original cars on the grid and copying and cheating is not allowed," Abiteboul said to Sky Sports.

Renault happy with the future of Formula 1

According to Renault's team boss, his team has now got that clarity. ''We now have a clear understanding that the future rules of F1 must prevent this from happening. It is an ongoing process, but the direction is good. The rules can't change right away, but as of the new Concorde Agreement it will be good," Abiteboul said.

''We support the choices of F1, but we need to look at what is missing. Our goal was to understand the philosophy of Formula 1 and we have it now and it is heading in the right direction," concluded the Frenchman.
