In addition to Silverstone and Suzuka, Spa-Francorchamps is also seen as a circuit where the tyres wear out a lot. At Silverstone things went wrong at Mercedes on the softer compounds of Pirelli, which will also be taken to the GP of Belgium.

The second Grand Prix at Silverstone was a great spectacle. After broken tyres at the British Grand Prix, even more spectacle was expected for the second race, when Pirelli opted for a softer set of tyres. Max Verstappen was able to win the race on that set, where a title race suddenly seemed to become exciting again.

Advantage for Verstappen?

A week later, however, that dream was dashed when Mercedes regained control of the tyres in Spain. During the Spanish GP, however, Pirelli had the hard tyres again, whereas for the Belgian GP the softer version was chosen. The C2, C3 and C4 tyres will be included and the C1 tyre will stay at home.

It remains to be seen whether this will have a positive effect on the chances of Verstappen. Mercedes seemed to have the C2 and C3 tyre under control again in Spain and doesn't have to fear warm temperatures either. On Sunday it will only be 16 degrees Celsius in Spa and now they even expect rain.
