Pirelli's tyres have been a stumbling block for several teams this year. At Silverstone, many suffered from broken tyres and Lewis Hamilton was one of the drivers who had to cover the last lap with only three tyres on the track. The Brit would like to see a change in 2021.

"We really need to put pressure on Pirelli in the future. Unfortunately they didn't do a great job with the tyres at the end of last year and the development for the 2020 tyres, so we had to continue with the 2019 tyre in this season", explains Hamilton to Motorsportweek.

Being able to push more

"When a goal was set, the drivers were not part of the discussion. That's why I went to the Concorde meeting in Paris last year to represent the drivers. We want to provide support to better set the goals, that's something that has gone wrong for a long time," Hamilton said.

According to Hamilton, it is especially important that the drivers can push more on the tyres. "We need a tyre that gives us more grip and is safer. It should also allow us to race closer together so the fans can enjoy the race more. Now we need to save a lot with the tyres and the fans don't want to see that. That's not what the drivers want either, to drive seconds behind another car because the tyres can't cope," Hamilton concluded.
