From the Belgian Grand Prix onwards, Formula 1 wants to abolish the use of qualifying mode. The opinions on this are as usual divided, but Christian Horner sees the action as a healthy step for Formula 1.

From the Belgian Grand Prix onwards, Formula 1 wants to ban the 'party mode' made famous by Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. The engine mode that has been on the Formula 1 cars for years, now has to be removed to bring back the excitement in the sport. Mercedes would be too dominant and the extra strong 'party mode' would play an important role in this.

Horner happy with Formula 1

''It will affect all teams, but the question is to what extent. This qualifying mode has been developed over the years and of course there are huge costs involved. In our dominant period we had to do the blowing of the exhaust in a standard setting during the weekend and now we can do something similar with the engine'', says Horner according to Motorsportweek.com.

According to the team boss of Red Bull Racing, it is therefore wise that Formula 1 wants to abolish qualifying mode. ''It's healthy for the manufacturers and it also ensures that the field is closer together and the races will be more exciting," concludes Horner.
